Please, Mr. or Ms. Architect, No More Roof Geometry Like This

Posted by in Roof, The Unusual, Water Sources | November 17, 2014

I don’t know how many times we have been contacted to evaluate interior water damage (Figure NMRG-1) that was a result of poor roof geometry.

Figure NMRG-1 Typical water streaks on wall.

Many times examination of the roof and/or the siding on the exterior reveals the obvious cause of the water streaking.  See Figures NMRG-2 through NMRG-5.

Figure NMRG-2 Valley directs runoff to back of downspout that is tight to roof.

Figure NMRG-3 Valley drains into back of downspout.

Figure NMRG-4 There is no direct path for roof runoff to drain from the roof.

Figure NMRG-5 And this has been going on for a LOOOONG time.
