High Winds Whip Through Northeast Ohio Late Afternoon on January 17, 2012
A front passed through Northeast Ohio between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Winds were generally out of the west, varying from west-northwest to west- southwest. A cursory check of peak wind speeds across the area at the National Weather Service and Wunderground websites found 61 MPH at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, 21 MPH at a station in Westlake, 67 MPH at a station in North Royalton, 51 MPH at Akron-Canton Airport, 41 MPH at a station in North Ridgeville, 38 MPH at a station in Hudson, and 37 MPH at a station in Mentor. Large branches were reported to be dislodged and a few trees were reported to be downed. One local television station reported a tree downed on a dwelling in Akron.
