High Winds & Hail in Cleveland Area on Leap Day (February 29, 2012)
Another cold front passed through Northeast Ohio during the evening of Wednesday, February 29, 2012. High winds and pea to marble-sized hail were observed by the Writer and others on the south side of the Cleveland Area (Parma). Winds were generally out of the west. A cursory check of peak wind speeds (gusts) at the National Weather Service website found 41 MPH gusts at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Meteorologist André Bernier of FOX8 Cleveland twittered about marble-sized hail in the viewing area. A photo provided on the FOX8 website shows hail larger than the size of a quarter in Ravenna.
