Indentations from Hail Impacts on Metal Roof Vents
What happens when a hail stone impacts a metal roof vent? If the hail is big enough, many times greater than /14 inch diameter is big enough, the metal gets dented.
The feature photograph shows where hail stones indented a metal roof vent and abraded the dirt build-up leaving a splash (or spatter) mark. Note the Pacman or jellyfish like shape of the splash mark.
But when the indented roof vent is subsequently exposed to years of weather, the indentations fill with accumulations of dirt, as seen in Figure 1.
