Please see our Types of Evaluations, Diversity of Causes, and Variety of Structures pages for details.

What geographical area do you cover?
PCI provides structural engineering services throughout Ohio. However, due to the additional cost of time and expenses for travel, most of our assignments are in Northern Ohio (North of I-70).

What is the usual time table for making contact, performing an examination, analyzing the situation, and preparing a report?
We are usually able to make contact and set an appointment within one business day. Our examinations are usually scheduled a few days to two weeks out from the time of initial contact, however it has been longer on occasion. The scheduling is not only affected by our availability, but that of the person(s) we are meeting, and on occasion the weather conditions. Most assignments are closed with a written report submitted three to five weeks after the initial contact. Urgent situations have been expedited as necessary and as our schedule allows. If scheduling appears to be a concern, we prefer to discuss the situation with the client before accepting the assignment to allow them to make a decision in their best interest.

How are your fees determined?
Our fees are generally based on the time, the expenses, and the mileage incurred on the assignment. The cost for our time are based on the hourly rates in effect at the time the service is provided. A schedule of our rates may be requested during the discussion of a particular assignment.

How are fees managed?
We update the client by telephone, email, or written correspondence throughout the assignment informing them of scheduling issues; conflicts that may arise; requirements for other engineering or technical expertise; requirements for additional meetings or site examinations; need for more elaborate analysis; or other issues that may affect the fee significantly causing it to be above the expected range before proceeding. When our findings are reported, the client decides the type of documentation required to close the close properly.

Is a retainer required to engage our services?
A retainer is required unless the client has demonstrated a pattern of timely payment with our firm. On rare occasion the requirement for a retainer may be waived based upon references deemed reliable by PCI.

What if an assignment is submitted or presented that PCI does not have the expertise to perform?
We are pleased to provide direction regarding the expertise that is probably needed to perform a proper evaluation. If we are able to, we are pleased to refer our clients and the public to other experts that may be able to assist them with these other evaluations. We are also sometimes able to refer our clients and the public to other experts that would be better suited to perform a particular structural evaluation. Please note that we do not accept any consideration or favors for this service from the client, the public or the other experts.
